Rec Spec - OG Sunray
Description
The Rec Spec OG Sunray is truly the closest homage we’ve done to the MACV-SOG watches of the 60s. Featuring a fluorescent green hue on the indexes & hands, we’ve used the Super-Luminous Green to mimic the original radioactive Tritium paint that the 1967 version used. Furthermore, we’ve gone for a dress-watch dark-gray sunray dial. Intuitively, this kind of shiny dial finish shouldn’t have been on a field watch. It seems, pretty obvious that the original MACV-SOG watches were meant to be dress watches and not field watches. And its that story that we found worth telling through our re-edit.
The 38mm case size combined with the 4-Hour integrated crown placement provides excellent wearability in all conditions - whether in or off the field. The integrated crown design also serves to protect it from getting pulled out inadvertently while reducing the overall wrist presence.
Powered by a workhorse NH36 TMI movement with 39-hours of power reserve, hacking & a day-date complication just like the original 1960s versions.

CARE GUIDE
Thanks to our expertise & quality materials your watch will require very little day-to-day care. You can help preserve its lustre by washing the case and bracelet from time to time using soapy water and a soft brush. Before cleaning your watch, always ensure that the winding crown is properly pushed down to guarantee waterproofness.
AN INFUSED HISTORICAL VALUE
Workhorse Automatic Movement
For the Rec Spec, we’ve used the rugged and dependable NH caliber from Seiko. More specifically, we’ve gone for the NH36 featuring the day-date complication that makes these watches so iconic. Featuring a custom date wheel to match the vintage SOG watches the movement is also the closest thing to the orignal caliber used in the trio of MACV-SOG watches. Featuring 40 hours of power reserve & a 21,600 BPH (Beats per Hour) the Rec Spec is ready for pretty much everything you throw at it.
The Rec Spec
The Rec Spec project initially started when we met with John “Tilt” Stryker Meyer - a former MACV-SOG member that wrote his experience through three separate books. He explained how the unit had to source gear from outside the traditional military procurement channels and this led MACV-SOG to go directly on Vietnamese markets to buy local Seiko watches. This unique procurement explains why the MACV-SOG watches look so different to the more “traditional” US Military watches of the 60s. Initially, they were meant to be sold as dress watches. Turns out - they worked well as field watches for some of the most elite units in Vietnam at the time. The Rec Spec - short for “Reconnaissance Spec” pays a tribute to both the men & equipment that they used as they provided valuable intel behind enemy lines.
