The Rec Spec EX retains the original DNA of the original MACV-SOG-inspired platform but is reimagined in ultra-light, corrosion-resistant Grade 2 Titanium. Its matte bead-blasted case finish offers a stealthy, non-reflective profile ideal for field use — delivering a purposeful tool-watch feel without excess weight.

This OG Sunray dial is as close as we can get to the 1960s version. A beautiful mix of pure functionality & dress watch elegance thanks to the italicized indexes, working to provide clear legibility in any condition. As a subtle nod to originals, the applied indexes are filled with green luminous paint reminiscent of the original tritium glow, minus the radiation.

Sized at 38mm and fitted with a 4-Hour integrated crown for added protection, the Rec Spec EX wears slim and secure on-wrist, whether you’re deployed or desk-bound. Instead of going purely tactical, this edition leans into the truth of the originals: they weren’t designed as field watches at all, they were dress watches repurposed for covert operations. The dark-gray sunray dial reflects that unexpected heritage, while the fluorescent green Super-Luminova on the hands and indexes recreates the look of the radioactive Tritium used in the 1967 models. The Project: Honoring the Men, the Mission, and the Gear

The Rec Spec project was born from a conversation with John “Tilt” Stryker Meyer, a MACV-SOG veteran whose firsthand accounts brought clarity to how these watches truly entered service. SOG teams often bypassed standard military supply chains and bought local Seiko dress watches directly from Vietnamese markets, gear chosen for necessity, not regulation. Those watches accompanied them on some of the most dangerous reconnaissance missions of the war.
Rec Spec, short for “Reconnaissance Spec”, is built to honor that reality. It commemorates the men who operated behind enemy lines and the unconventional equipment they relied on. This edition is not just a reissue; it’s a tribute to improvisation, resourcefulness, and the history carried on the wrists of one of America’s most elite units.
