The Rec Spec EX retains the rugged DNA of the original MACV-SOG-inspired platform but is reimagined in ultra-light, corrosion-resistant Grade 2 Titanium. Its matte bead-blasted case finish offers a stealthy, non-reflective profile ideal for field use — delivering a purposeful tool-watch feel without excess weight.

Specifically on this light gray "titanium" dial, we've took the experimenting a step further by applying luminous paint directly onto the dial for extreme visibility in low-light conditions. Pushing the boundaries of stealth vs. readibility.

The minimalist dial is stripped back for pure functionality — no gloss, no frills, just clear legibility in any condition. A subtle nod to 1960s mil-spec watches, the applied indexes are not luminous so as to create a contrast with the full luminous dial.

Sized at 38mm and fitted with a 4-Hour integrated crown for added protection, the Rec Spec EX wears slim and secure on-wrist — whether you’re deployed or desk-bound. Inside ticks the reliable NH36 TMI automatic movement, offering 39 hours of power reserve, hacking seconds, and a day-date complication true to the original mission-ready spec.

THE 196O'S DRESS WATCH THAT BECAME A FIELD WATCH

GRADE 2 TITANIUM

Titanium is a lightweight, corrosion-resistant metal known for its strength-to-weight ratio and durability in extreme environments. Its naturally matte, gunmetal-grey finish lends itself perfectly to the brushed surfaces of the Rec Spec Titanium—reducing glare and enhancing stealth in the field.Traditionally used by NASA and Lockheed Martin for air force purposes, grade 2 titanium now marks a new chapter in Praesidus watchmaking. By introducing this advanced material to the Rec-Spec lineup, we combine modern engineering with combat-proven design, creating a timepiece built for those who move with less flashiness and light wrists.

The Rec Spec

THE PROJECT

The Rec Spec project initially started when we met with John “Tilt” Stryker Meyer - a former MACV-SOG member that wrote his experience through three separate books. He explained how the unit had to source gear from outside the traditional military procurement channels and this led MACV-SOG to go directly on Vietnamese markets to buy local Seiko watches. This unique procurement explains why the MACV-SOG watches look so different to the more “traditional” US Military watches of the 60s. Initially, they were meant to be sold as dress watches. Turns out - they worked well as field watches for some of the most elite units in Vietnam at the time. The Rec Spec - short for “Reconnaissance Spec” pays a tribute to both the men & equipment that they used as they provided valuable intel behind enemy lines.
